My name is Nolan Alan. I was born and raised in the foothills of northern California. (and just for the record I am not making up the whole born at home under water in a horse trough in a chicken coop thing that I mentioned in "In The Beginning")
After graduating high school I lived in Ventura County, which is in southern California. Later I moved to Santa Cruz California (I would recommend avoiding the area unless you're there to see a woman named Kira). After almost loosing my sanity I ended up in Washington state, where I am now.
My talents consist of a collage of unmarketable abilities. (If there's a god it has a sadistic sense of humor)
These talents include but are not limited to
Funny and disturbing drawings
Poetry
Looking inconspicuous
Understanding the property of matter (meaning I can examine an object and determine its physical abilities)
Darts
Figuring out lingo without having to ask
Photography
Making ridiculous things sound convincing
Hanging things on the wall crooked
Creative writing
Making squirrel noises
Making monkey noises
Frisbee
Cooking
and
Tree Climbing (the first letters are capitalized because this one is the most important)
Photography is one of my favorites of these talents. [Oh wow! A photographer's blog?! I've never seen that before! There's not a single soccer mom with a blog and a camera who just post photos of her funny looking children constantly]
Also from now on [these brackets] are now used for sarcasm while (these) are for side notes.
(not totally hating on all those "soccer mom" blogs for the record. I have come across a few which I have truly, thoroughly enjoyed)
My photo endeavors were pretty typical of your average nature photographer until a man named Shmuel Thaler was introduced to me. Shmuel is a photo journalist and his take on photography changed my life. He helped me understand that photos have the power to relay almost endless amounts of information. Since this enlightening encounter I have had the urge to collect and document the stories and lives of the people on this planet.
Joseph Campbell once said
"I don't believe people are looking for the meaning of life as much as they are looking for the experience of being alive"
I believe hearing the things which have helped others experience what it is to be alive help us understand and prioritize our lives. I created this site for many reasons, one being to document my work on my van, another to document the people who have helped me experience what it is to be alive.
