Skagit River Ranch

Skagit River Ranch is a farm close to Bellingham. I buy a number of the products I stock at the store I work at from this place. They had a sort of "open house" type event.  In the interest of educating myself on the origin of the products I purchase from them I went. (there were also bbq ribs to be had)

In retrospect I should not have let Sean come with me because it seems he enjoys terrorizing chickens

Even though Sean didn't think so a four year old girl and I both agreed this horse looked sad.

Napping Chicken would appreciate it if you would let him nap in peace.

There was a multitude of chickens which had managed to escape from the confines of their fenced in pastures. This is one of the ones we caught and put back. 

This rooster was a sneaky one. Sean and I teamed up to corral him in an effort to get good photos of him. This guy was on top of it though. I don't think we ever got closer than thirty feet from him. To top it all off he knows how to cross a road with authority. 

This cow is very cute. But I'd be willing to bet that it has more flavor than cute going for it.

And WHOLE-LEE-SHIT. This was by far the largest bear trap I had ever seen in my life. It was straight out of a Looney Tunes episode. My fingers easily slipped between the teeth of this thing. You'd need three men and a four foot crowbar to set this thing. 

This chicken took refuge on this sedentary tractor when it started to rain. However, unlike it's dinosaur friends, this chicken decided to roost in an area with no overhead coverage. 

On our way back we stopped to take some photos of this cool old barn on the side of the road.

It was next to a huge corn field and appeared to be abandoned. 

I enjoy taking photos of decay. The shack next to the barn had some cool stuff going for it in that department. 

So in conclusion, Skagit River Ranch is a great farm. They provide quality organic eggs and meat products and have ethical, sustainable practices. They also have amazing ribs, which you didn't get to see photos of because I was too busy eating them.
